BUPA Westminster Mile
The mile is that perfect distance for testing both speed and stamina.
And 60 years ago Britain's own Sir Roger Bannister became the first person on the planet to run the iconic distance in under four minutes.
Saturday 24 May 2014 is your chance to test yourself over over the mile alongside thousands of other runners.
The Bupa Westminster Mile is held on the most iconic mile in the world, starting on The Mall and finishing in front of Buckingham Palace. This year celebrates the 60th anniversary of Sir Roger Bannister becoming the first man to break the four-minute mile and Diane Leather becoming the first woman to run a mile in under five minutes. Also on 24 May Paralympic legend David Weir will attempt to join them in the history books and become the first athlete to complete a mile in under three minutes.
Organised by the London Marathon in partnership with Westminster City Council, there are categories for all ages and abilities, so everyone can take part.
There are races for:
Families
Adult & Vets
Juniors
Elite Athletes

This Olympic Legacy event begins on the iconic Mall, at the same start line Olympians and Paralympians used for the marathon and road cycling events in 2012.
Each mile race will see runners set off towards Admiralty Arch before a right turn into Horse Guards Road, following the perimeter of the world-famous St James’s Park. Runners will pass in front of Horse Guards Parade – used for centuries for state visits and the Trooping of the Colour – then, after the Parade Ground, they will continue behind Downing Street and the Cabinet War Rooms before making another right turn into Birdcage Walk.
The second half of the race will take runners past Wellington Barracks, before a final right turn into Spur Road where they’ll enter the home straight for a memorable finish in front of Buckingham Palace.
